The Workplace Relations Commission's (“WRC”) Statutory Code of Practice that was published in January 2018 on Retirement and Longer Working, INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS ACT 1990 (CODE OF PRACTICE ON LONGER WORKING) (DECLARATION) ORDER 2017,
was drafted in consultation with IBEC, ICTU and relevant Government Departments, guides employers and employees on best practice in
how to deal with retirement in the workplace.This now sets the standard for dealing with mandatory retirement in the
workplace and requests to work beyond the mandatory retirement age, and
should now be used by employers when addressing the issue of mandatory retirement going forward.
