18 Apr Statutory Sick Pay (SSP)
The government earlier this year announced a postponement in the planned increase of SSP for the year 2025, from 5 days to 7 days per year, due to an ongoing review of the operation of the Scheme and impact on businesses.https://enterprise.gov.ie/en/publications/statutory-sick-leave-in-ireland-assessment.html
However, the scheme remains operational and employees are still entitled to 5 days paid sick leave and employers must continue to administer the scheme as they have been doing since it was introduced on 1st January 2023 under the Sick Leave Act 2022.
All employers are therefore obliged to provide 5 paid sick days annually provided a medical certificate is submitted on the first day of absence.
Both full-time and part-time employees are eligible and SSP is payable at 70% of normal pay, up to a maximum €110 a day.
